Nestlé launches recyclable paper packaging for coffee blends in Germany

Nestlé Germany has taken the lead in launching coffee blends in recyclable paper packaging, such as Nestlé Cappuccino and Nestlé Latte, which successfully replaced traditional plastic containers. In Germany alone, this move can reduce the use of 155 tons of plastic each year. The main component of the new packaging is paper, accounting for up to 95%, and consumers only need to put the paper cans into the paper recycling bin.

The recyclable lids and sealing films on the packaging should be thrown into the yellow plastic and metal trash cans. Nestlé Germany's move is an important step in its global strategy to promote more sustainable packaging. By 2025, Nestlé's goal is to make more than 95% of plastic packaging globally recyclable or reusable, while reducing the use of virgin plastic by one third compared to 2018.

Aldi switches oatmeal packaging to paper in the UK

Aldi has switched to paper packaging for its Everyday Essentials porridge oats in all its UK stores. This means that all Aldi porridge oats products, including Everyday Essentials, Organic and Scottish Porridge Oats, are now plastic-free. This move is expected to reduce the use of approximately 57 tons of plastic each year, contributing significantly to Aldi's goal of reducing plastic packaging by 50% by 2025. By reducing the use of plastic, Aldi not only demonstrates its emphasis on environmental protection, but also demonstrates its determination to provide consumers with sustainable choices and practice sustainable development.

Coles launches recyclable paper packaging for baked chocolate in Australia

VektroPack, headquartered in Singapore, recently built a new factory in Melbourne, Australia, which specializes in producing environmentally friendly paper packaging for Coles supermarket's Bake & Create and Simply baked chocolate series. These packages are Opal certified and have good recyclability. After a year of intensive research and development, VektroPack successfully developed a high-performance paper film that can rival traditional plastic films in terms of moisture, oxygen and sealing properties.

VektroPack aims to phase out plastic packaging to meet its sustainability goals and contribute to achieving APCO's national packaging goals for 2025. This new paper packaging is not only conducive to curbside recycling, but also effectively reduces plastic pollution during the recycling process.

Johnnie Walker launches new whisky bottle made from 90% paper

Following the launch of the lightest glass bottle in history, Scotch whisky giant Johnnie Walker once again leads the industry in innovation by launching a new whisky bottle made of 90% paper. This revolutionary paper bottle was developed by Johnnie Walker's parent company Diageo, together with PulPac and PA Consulting. This 70ml paper bottle uses innovative dry-molded fiber technology, and there is a thin plastic lining inside the bottle to maintain the quality of the liquor. It is worth mentioning that when recycling, consumers do not need to remove the plastic lining, which greatly facilitates the recycling process. Compared with traditional glass bottles, this paper bottle is about 60% lighter, and preliminary carbon footprint assessments show that its carbon emissions may be reduced by 47%. The bottle cap is made of cork and dry-molded fiber. Although it cannot be recycled at present, Diageo is actively developing recyclable alternatives.

This is Diageo's second attempt at paper packaging. This summer, the company launched a molded fiber bottle for individual servings of Baileys in Spain. The design of the Johnnie Walker Paper Bottle draws on the success of the previous mini Baileys bottle and is further optimized to fit larger and more complex whisky bottles. In order to fully evaluate the performance of this new paper bottle, Johnnie Walker will conduct an exclusive one-month pilot at the 1820 bar on Princes Street in Edinburgh, Scotland. During this period, they will focus on how bartenders use this new bottle and the durability of the bottle in such a high-intensity use environment in the bar.

Marigold Health Foods to adopt environmentally friendly EnviroCan paper cans

Sonoco recently announced that Marigold Health Foods in the UK will use its environmentally friendly EnviroCan paper cans to package a range of plant-based products. After two years of research and development, this paper can successfully replaces the traditional metal can body with a cardboard can body and paper can bottom. This innovative move allows the product to be fully recycled during curbside recycling and fully complies with upcoming UK and EU packaging regulations. Compared with traditional metal cans, the new paper can is 20% lighter.

Sonoco said that 95% of the material composition of this paper can is paper, of which 60% is recycled. Although the aluminum seal, LDPE lid and liner are still made of other materials, the overall proportion of paper cans has increased significantly. This cooperation marks a new breakthrough for Sonoco's paper cans in the market. In recent years, Sonoco has been committed to promoting this environmentally friendly packaging solution and actively cooperating with customers and recyclers in the US market to jointly promote sustainable development.
